Bunning and the Specter

FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS

Bunning and the Specte
r

Ginsburg lives long and Bunning runs
Toward a specter ringing a bell
"The bell, the bell, for whom, for whom does it toll?
Is it Ginsburg?"
The specter stops and darkly turns,
"Why my bell is rung for you, for you.
Come as you are.

For Ginsburg travels a different road;
It's length not known by you.
And the music heard along its way
Is never heard by those
Who, chasing the sound of my bell
Find me.
Come!"
Thomas Paine

Republican U.S. Senator Jim Bunning predicted over the weekend that U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Ginsburg would likely be dead from pancreatic cancer within nine months. The Louisville Courier-Journal reported:

During a wide-ranging 30-minute speech on Saturday at the Hardin County Republican Party's Lincoln Day Dinner, Bunning said he supports conservative judges "and that's going to be in place very shortly because Ruth Bader Ginsburg ... has cancer."

"Bad cancer. The kind that you don't get better from," he told a crowd of about 100 at the old State Theater.

"Even though she was operated on, usually, nine months is the longest that anybody would live after (being diagnosed) with pancreatic cancer," he said.

This has nothing to do with "Left" or "Right." This is purely of the HUMAN level. Does anyone remember what that is? There is not 'liberal cancer', or 'conservative cancer.'

How embarassing anyone feel it necessary or appropriate to predict someone's lifespan in the support of some political drama! The shame...!

Funny as well the comment about wolves in sheeps clothing. Was it not a warning against false prophets? One who claims to speak in the name of God or portends to have God-like powers? Surely, announcing your estimation of someone's life span is rather omnipotent, wouldn't you agree?

And more so, a person would have to either fancy himself God or be a complete ass to think it okay that he make such a comment.

THE RESPONSE TO MY COMMENTS OF THE AUTHOR'S ARTICLE IS FAR LEFT DRIBBLE.THE ARTICLE WAS ABSOLUTELY A LEFT WING ATTACK.IF CLARANCE THOMAS HAD CANCER AND A LEFT WING CONGRESSMAN MADE THE COMMENT THERE WOULD BE NO ARTICLE.BUNNING'S COMMENTS WAS HORIBLE AND SHOULD BE CONDEMED. TO SAY THE ARTICLE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH"LEFT OR RIGHT"IS NOTHING MORE THAN "SELF RIGHTOUS INDIGNATION"WHICH THE FAR LEFT NUTS USE WHEN CAUGHT WITH THEIR PANTS DOWN.THE FAR RIGHT IS POMPOUS WHEN CAUGHT IN SIMULAR SITUATIONS.MERGE THE TWO TOGETHER AND YOU GET SELF RIGHTOUS INDIGNATE POMPOUS ASSES. REGARDING SHEEPS CLOTHING AND CANCER,WE HAVE THE FAR LEFT IDOLOGY SPREADING IN MY BELOVED DEMOCRAT PARTY. IN CONCLUSION,THE AUTHOR IN A BRILLIANT WRITER WHO APPEARS TO VENT HIS ANGER IN HIS ARTICLES.I WISH I POSSESED HIS WRITING SKILLS.IM AM SURE MY LATE FRIEND BOB GIROUX WOULD AGREE.

I would have a problem with anyone who celebrated Tony Smith's illness. In the world of blogs, I'm sure they have made their comments. There are all kinds out there from both sides of the divide. I always liked Tony; he could make his point and be a gentleman about it. I try to write with a touch of sarcasm and dark humor, not too acerbic, and write of persons who, if only for fifteen minutes, are known to many readers. Anger? I have to admit I'm not happy with what I have heard and am hearing from the right. I'm comfortable saying that I do get angry over some of what I hear-on both sides.
We recently lost two great men, Studs Terkel and William F. Buckley. They came from different places politically and I liked each of them. I remember William F. and Gore Vidal were on television in the 60's, I believe it was during the Democratic convention-I could be wrong- and I remember Bill calling Vidal "...an ass." Wow! I stopped playing pool and listened on. Vidal, apoplectic, said "Bill, How can you? We just had dinner over your house Sunday!" "True" said Buckley, "But that doesn't change the fact that you're an ass."

I enjoy listening to and reading intelligent people debate and argue a point. Rarely do they go ad hominem but when they do -wow!

And someone out there paid me a compliment of which I am very appreciative. Thank you. Tom Paine
